Primis Honors Innovators at Sheflett STEM Challenge Primis Honors Future Innovators at Fourth Sheflett Memorial STEM Challenge Author: Primis | Published: Wednesday, February 5, 2025 Largo High School Takes Top Prize for AI-Powered Customer Retention SolutionRICHMOND, V.a. – Primis Bank has wrapped up its fourth rendition of the Sheflett Memorial STEM Challenge, an initiative that united high school and college students from across Virginia and Maryland to tackle a complex, real-world banking problem using artificial intelligence and data science. The competition, named in memory of the late George “Cody” Sheflett Jr., who served as the bank’s chief information officer and was a tireless advocate for advancing technology education, continues to highlight Primis’ commitment to empowering the next generation of innovators—especially women and minorities pursuing STEM careers. In this year’s challenge, students were asked to design and present a machine learning solution to help banks predict and prevent customer churn—an issue that costs financial institutions significantly more in acquisition than retention. Over several weeks, teams collaborated across institutions to analyze customer data, score churn probability, map customer journeys, and build ethical, AI-driven retention strategies. Their work was evaluated by a panel of Primis executives and technologists.“This challenge is the perfect representation of what we stand for at Primis,” said Diane Beirne, Director of Corporate Social Responsibility. “We’re passionate about creating real opportunities for women and minorities in STEM, and we couldn’t be prouder of the innovation, collaboration and drive these students brought to the table. They embraced the challenge with professionalism and purpose—and it was inspiring to witness.”Three student teams earned top honors at the event’s final presentation showcase:First Place: Largo High School – Awarded $500 scholarships per studentSecond Place: Appomattox Regional Governor’s School & Virginia State University – $250 scholarships per studentThird Place: Chesapeake Bay Governor’s School & Rappahannock Community College – $100 scholarships per studentStudents and faculty from Largo High School (Upper Marlboro, Maryland) celebrate their first-place finish at the Sheflett Memorial STEM Challenge, pictured with Dennis Zember, Deborah Diaz, Al Pearson and other Primis team members. In recognition of their dedication to STEM advancement, Primis is also awarding $2,000 to each of the five participating schools, totaling $10,000, to support ongoing STEM programming and resources.“At Primis, our mission is to provide unrivaled solutions—for our customers, our communities and our future,” said Dennis Zember, CEO of Primis. “That starts with investing in people. A New Name. A Deep Bench of Banking Experience.

A New Name. A Deep Bench of Banking Experience. Author: Primis | Published: Wednesday, April 1, 2026 Primis may be a newer name, but our story didn’t start in 2021.Primis Bank officially launched on March 31, 2021, when Sonabank became Primis Bank and Southern National Bancorp of Virginia became Primis Financial Corp. What changed was the name. What didn’t change was the experience behind it.Long before Primis entered the picture, our team was working to build a bank grounded in relationships, strong service, and real-world expertise. Today, we’re still guided by that same commitment—just with better tools, improved technology, and a fresh perspective on how banking should actually work.Where It StartedOur roots trace back to Sonabank, whose first branch opened in Virginia in 2005.From the very beginning, our goal wasn’t just to be another bank. It was to build something better—an institution that combined personal service with smart, strategic growth. As Sonabank expanded across Virginia through acquisitions and community partnerships, we deepened our expertise while growing alongside the customers and businesses we served. Each step forward helped strengthen our foundation. Each expansion helped bring new capability to our customers. And each milestone moved us closer to becoming the modern banking partner we are today.Building Strength Through GrowthOver the next decade, Sonabank grew its footprint through strategic acquisitions and steady expansion—adding new locations, welcoming new customers, and broadening its ability to serve both individuals and businesses throughout Virginia and the Mid‑Atlantic region. In 2017, Sonabank entered a transformational chapter through its merger with Eastern Virginia Bankshares. The combined organization brought together the experience of two successful Virginia banking institutions—including the legacy of a bank whose history dated back more than a century. That combination of scale, experience, and commitment to community banking created a stronger institution—one equipped to better serve customers across evolving markets and economic cycles.Introducing PrimisBy 2021, it was clear the future of banking would demand something more: better technology, simpler solutions, and a more customer‑focused experience. That’s why Sonabank officially became Primis Bank on March 31, 2021—marking the beginning of a new brand built to reflect where we were going, not just where we had been.Primis represents a deliberate step forward. A move toward smarter service. Better access. And a banking experience designed to meet customers where they are—whether that’s online, on the phone, or in person. While our name may be new, the expertise behind it comes from years of real‑world banking experience.Experience That Moves Banking ForwardToday, Primis brings together that legacy of experience with a modern approach grounded in innovation and real human support. We combine the strength and security of an FDIC‑insured financial institution with the mindset of a technology‑driven company—giving customers simpler products, faster service, and access to real Primis representatives 24/7.We’re proud of where we’ve come from. And even more focused on where we’re going next.Because better banking doesn’t happen by accident. It happens when experience meets new ideas. When real people stay focused on real customer needs. And when a bank is willing to challenge the status quo. That’s the story behind Primis—and we’re just getting started. Why This Top Workplaces Recognition Matters

Why This Top Workplaces Recognition Matters Author: Ann-Stanton Gore | Published: Wednesday, May 27, 2026 Earlier this week, Primis announced that we earned eight 2026 Top Workplaces Culture Excellence awards through a nationally recognized workplace excellence program based entirely on teammate feedback. You can read the full announcement here. While we’re incredibly proud of the recognition itself, I’ve spent even more time reflecting on why it matters. At Primis, culture has never been a side initiative. It’s a foundational part of how we operate, grow and lead. As we’ve expanded, we’ve worked intentionally to build a company where people feel appreciated, supported, challenged and connected to meaningful work. That’s not always easy during periods of growth. Maintaining a strong culture takes commitment, communication and leaders who genuinely care about people. It takes teammates who show up every day wanting to make each other better. And it takes an organization willing to invest in leadership development, recognition, professional growth, flexibility and well-being.What makes this recognition especially meaningful is that it came directly from our teammates. We had 56% participation in the survey — significantly higher than the average participation rate for these programs. To me, that says something important: our people care. They care enough to engage, share feedback and help shape what Primis becomes next. The awards recognized strengths across multiple areas, including:Culture Excellence AwardsTop Workplaces for Appreciation Top Workplaces for Compensation & Benefits Top Workplaces for Employee Well-Being Top Workplaces for InnovationTop Workplaces for Leadership Top Workplaces for Professional Development Top Workplaces for Work-Life FlexibilityIndustry AwardsFinancial Services Top WorkplacesThat’s something our entire team should be proud of.Culture impacts more than the employee experience. It influences how teams collaborate, how customers are served, how leaders lead and how companies grow. It helps attract great talent, retain strong teammates and build trust in the marketplace. And in banking especially, that matters. In an industry that can sometimes feel transactional or overly corporate, we want Primis to feel different. We want people to feel connected to leadership, empowered to grow and proud of where they work.We know there’s still work ahead. Great cultures are never “finished.” But this recognition is an encouraging reminder that we’re building something special together. Most importantly, these awards belong to our teammates. They are the reason Primis continues to grow, evolve and stand apart. Cyber-Smart Homebuying: Tips to Stay Safe Online

Cyber-Smart Homebuying: Tips to Stay Safe Online Author: Primis Mortgage | Published: Tuesday, May 19, 2026 Buying a home today means more of the process is happening online. From emails and texts to documents and payments, technology helps streamline the process, but it also means buyers should be more intentional about protecting their personal and financial information. The good news? You don’t need advanced technical knowledge to stay safe online. A few simple habits can make a big difference. How to protect yourself while house hunting Let’s break down a few steps you can take now to keep your information safe later. Create small digital boundaries Consider making a dedicated email address for home-buying-related communication, so those messages stay organized, potentially making it easier to spot anything unusual. Plus, when it comes to listing platforms and sign-in forms, opt to only share the necessary information upfront. Don’t rush when it comes to money Scammers rely heavily on urgency to push buyers to act before they verify the details—don’t let this fool you. You can always pause and check in with your loan officer, especially regarding last-minute payment and wiring changes. More messages mean being more selective It’s normal to receive more emails or texts as you go through the homebuying process. But with the increased volume of communication, it’s also a great time to be more selective. Take a close look at sender details, links, and requests before clicking or responding. Trust your gut Long story short, if something feels off, then there's a good chance you could be dealing with false information. It’s always ok to take a step back and verify before responding—your future self will thank you. Even in this new digital age, we’ve got you covered No matter your goals, we’re always thrilled to help you and your family find a place that fits your needs and feels like home. Spring Cleaning Your Cybersecurity: 3 Simple Steps to Stay Safer Online This Season

Spring Cleaning Your Cybersecurity: 3 Simple Steps to Stay Safer Online This Season Author: Primis | Published: Tuesday, April 14, 2026 When you think about spring cleaning, you probably picture decluttering closets or organizing your garage. But your digital life deserves a refresh, too.Just like dust builds up on your shelves, cyber risks can quietly pile up across your online accounts, devices, and apps over time. Taking a few simple steps now can help protect your personal information, online banking access, and financial data from today’s most common cybersecurity threats. At Primis Bank, we believe that smarter banking includes safer banking. Here’s how you can spring clean your cybersecurity in three easy ways:1. Reset Your Passwords (All of Them)Your passwords are the front door to your digital financial life. If you’re using the same password across multiple accounts—or if you haven’t updated them in a while—now is the time.Cybercriminals often rely on stolen or reused passwords to gain unauthorized access to banking apps, email accounts, and even payment services. Resetting your passwords regularly can significantly reduce your risk of fraud or identity theft.Primis Pro Tip:Use long passphrases instead of short passwordsAvoid personal details like birthdays or pet namesNever reuse passwords across financial and non-financial accountsConsider using a secure password manager to generate and store unique login credentialsAnd while you're at it, enable multi-factor authentication (MFA) wherever available—especially for your online banking accounts.2. Back Up Your Devices Before You Need ToFrom important financial records to family photos, your devices likely hold information you simply can’t replace. But malware attacks, ransomware, and even hardware failures can put that data at risk.Backing up your devices—laptops, smartphones, and tablets—helps ensure that even if something unexpected happens, you won’t lose what’s important.Make it part of your cybersecurity routine to:Back up your files to a secure cloud service or external hard driveSchedule automatic backups weekly or monthlyEnsure backups are encrypted for added protectionA reliable backup can be the difference between a small headache and a major disruption—especially if your personal or financial data is involved.3. Update Your Apps and SoftwareIgnoring update notifications may seem harmless—but outdated apps and operating systems are one of the most common ways cybercriminals exploit security vulnerabilities.Software updates often include critical patches that protect against the latest cybersecurity threats. Keeping your systems current helps ensure the strongest possible defense against malware, phishing attempts, and unauthorized access. This spring, take a few minutes to:Update your mobile banking appInstall the latest version of your device’s operating systemUpdate antivirus or security softwareRemove apps you no longer useEnabling automatic updates wherever possible can make staying secure nearly effortless.A Cleaner, Safer Digital Life Starts NowCybersecurity doesn’t have to be complicated. With just a few proactive steps—resetting your passwords, backing up your devices, and updating your software—you can help safeguard your personal and financial information all year long.At Primis Bank, we’re committed to helping you bank confidently with tools and tips designed to keep your information secure. Because a cleaner digital space means greater peace of mind.Looking for more ways to protect yourself from fraud and cyber threats? When “Fraud Prevention” Calls You… It Might Be a Scam Author: Primis | Published: Tuesday, April 21, 2026 Here’s what that looks like:You get a call saying your account isn’t secure. They sound official. Urgent. Helpful, even. Then they tell you to move your money or log into your account while they “walk you through it.”Sometimes they’ll even ask you to share your screen. That’s the moment things go sideways.Let’s Be Clear: We’re Not Calling You Like ThatIf you take one thing away from this, make it this:We will never call you and ask you to:Move your money to “protect” itShare your login credentialsAccept a screen-sharing requestDownload remote access apps like AnyDeskIf someone is asking you to do any of that, it’s not us.Why This Scam WorksIt plays on urgency and trust.Scammers want you to act fast before you think it through. And by using the name of a bank—or even “fraud department”—they’re borrowing credibility they don’t have.Once they get access to your device or your login, they can move quickly. What To Do If You Get One of These CallsDon’t try to figure it out in the moment. Just do this:Hang upDon’t click anything or share your screenCall your bank directly using the number you trustThat one step breaks the scam. What We’re Doing On Our EndWe’re actively monitoring this type of activity and continuing to add protections to keep you safe. That includes:Exploring ways to alert you directly inside online banking if something feels offEvaluating safeguards around screen-sharing and remote access tools commonly used in scamsContinuing to strengthen our fraud monitoring systemsAnd as always, you’re backed by a real team, available 24/7, who you can call anytime something doesn’t feel right.Bottom LineIf someone calls you and creates urgency around your money, pause.Because the safest move is usually the simplest one:Hang up and call us directly at 1.833.4Primis (833.477.4647).
